Denver Pale Ale Artist Series No.2

Great Divide Brewing Co. releases the second edition of their Denver Pale Ale Artist Series.

Denver Pale Ale Artist SeriesDenver Pale Ale #1 & #2

We first launched our Denver Pale Ale Artists Series in June of 2016. The project was a way to pay tribute to the city we’ve called home for the past 23 years. We wanted local artists to design a can that captures what the city of Denver means to them. Our first artist, Josh Holland, did just that and designed our amazing Denver Pale Ale Artist Series No.1. Along with the new can, we took our classic Denver Pale Ale recipe from 1996 and reimagined it to better represent the thriving craft beer haven that Denver has become. We transformed the beer from an English to an American-Style Pale Ale, and the new liquid left its bottle tenure for some custom designed cans. This year, the recipe is staying the same but the artwork has evolved once more.

Artist No.2: John Vogl of the Bungaloo

We are excited to reveal the Denver Pale Ale Artist Series #2 artwork created by John Vogl of The Bungaloo. John lives in Denver as a self-described illustrator-designer-artist of sorts. Working under the nonsense studio name, The Bungaloo, he is a one man operation. John does most of his work by hand using mostly pen and ink and uses the natural world around him as inspiration. Some of his previous work includes designs for Target, Never Summer, Moutain Dew, and HP. You can check out more of his artwork which will be hung in both Denver taprooms starting this June.

The Artwork

John used this opportunity to create a can that “looked and felt like summer in Denver, and Colorado as a whole”. He wanted to design something that would “capture the mood of a place that [he’s] been lucky to call home”. And that’s exactly what he did. The new colorful artwork plays off of existing Great Divide packaging with the silhouetted icons and bold designs. But at the same time, it clearly boasts John’s own signature, artistic style. He’d like you to know, the artwork is not intended to be a representation of himself, but that is his dog, Loki, on the can.
