Bold Character is more than just a catchphrase at Great Divide, it’s the philosophy behind what we brew, how we think, and what we believe. We’d like to introduce you to another Bold Character around here, Ryan Rafferty.

How long have you worked at GD?

11 years.

How did you start working for Great Divide, and how has your role changed over the last 11 years?

I started on the old bottling Iine.  At the time about 12 people worked for Great Divide.  After 9 months I started racking and warehousing.  Back then you kegged in the mornings and then built and shipped orders in the afternoon.  After 3 months of that I moved into the cellar doing cellar work like filtering and dry hopping for a year.  Then Mr. Dunn offered me a magical new position he was starting for Logistics and here I am today!  A lot of people and a lot of stories in between.

What’s a funny story or situation from the vault?

I will never forget my first GD Christmas Party.  Arrived at the party at Falling Rock in my vehicle, had a few too many beers and Brian Dunn then offered me a ride home which I gladly accepted!  I couldn’t believe it, the freaking President of Great Divide was my DD that night!!!  He was probably ready to fire me by the time he dropped me off……

What does a day in the life of a Logistics Manager entail?

What do I do? Hmmm, what do I do? Well, I usually wake up and have breakfast in bed. Then I yog (jog) to work to keep up my sweet logistics bod. Then around midday I bathe in the Platte River. What else do you want to know? No, really I do a lot of inventory management. Is that it? Oh, and I spend a lot of time scheduling… and answering a million questions.

What is your favorite GD beer?

Titan

What is your favorite GD icon?

Old Ruffian. ‘Cause he symbolizes everything I believe in.

What is your favorite thing about working at GD?

The people. And also being able to crack open a beer at 12pm, and just go “…what?!”

What is a fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know?

I mean, most people know I have kids…right?

If you had to perform in a talent show, what would your talent be?

Well I can’t dance, so maybe dancing?

What is your go-to karaoke song?

God, I don’t know. But I sing a lot of Red Hot Chile Peppers in the shower.

What is your favorite animal?

A duck. Well wait, is the question if I could be an animal? Ya, a duck. Because then I could fly AND swim.

What is your spirit animal and why?

Wait, what? I’ve never heard of a spirit animal.

>>At this point, other staffers turn and interject.<<

David: “Woah, what? Ok, your spirit animal is like what animal you would be.”

Raff: “So…a duck?”

David: “No, not what you would be, but who you would be.”

Raff: “Um, I guess I still don’t understand.”

David: “Not what animal you would ideally like to be, but what animal you actually would be. So, are you a duck?”

Raff: “No. Well, wait. Am I?”

Moving on. What advice would you give 21 year old Raff? No wait, David is 22. What advice would you give David?

“Don’t drink whiskey before lunch. Ya…that’s usually a good one.”
